Sometimes I create a pencil sketch of a lettering design and then use a light pad to “trace” the design and do the final lettering. This is a great way to eliminate trapped pencil lines under watercolor.

- Hi everyone, Kristina here.
Welcome to another video at
my YouTube Channel and blog.
Today I am coming at you
with another lettering video.
Now, I already had a card
video filmed, edited,
uploaded to YouTube, ready to go
and then I realized that the
stamp set that I had used
on the card was
sold out everywhere.
It was sold out at online stores
and also at the
manufacturer's website itself.
So I decided to save that
card video for another day
until the stamp set is available
and then I'll share
it with you then.
So, I love that card,
I love the stamp set.
No worries, you guys
will see it soon.
But for today I thought I
would do some lettering.
So I started out by
sketching my phrase
which is "believe in yourself."
I do this when I
don't entirely know
exactly where I want all the
loops in the letters to be
before I go straight to the
finished, ya know, lettering.
So I like to do this
and just kinda get
the idea down on paper
so I don't have to
think about it too much
when I'm actually
doing the lettering.
I like to use a light table
or a light tablet for this,
especially if I'm going to
be doing some watercoloring
over the top, which is
what I'm doing today.
Watercolor will trap
the pencil underneath
so I don't want to be penciling
directly onto the
watercolor paper
because then it will show
in the final product.
So to get around that I use a
light table or a light tablet.
This is a really
inexpensive light tablet
that I got on Amazon.
It was under $50 and it's
super thin and light.
It plugs in using a USB cord
so you could plug it into
your computer or laptop
if you were traveling with it.
So it's really
really convenient,
especially for storing
in your craft room
or in a studio.
I really do enjoy it.
The watercolor that
I'm using today
is from Dr. Ph. Martin's.
It's the Radiant
Concentrated color line
and the color I'm using
today is Juniper Green.
I love this color,
it's so pretty.
The brush pen I'm using today
is actually a water
brush from Pentel.
It is the small Aquash brush
and I'm just going
to kind of go over
what I've already drawn.
You can see it shining through
because of that light tablet
and as I draw it on where
there should be thick lines
I'll go ahead and just
press down onto the brush
a little bit more.
So I'm gonna go ahead and
just leave this in real time
and turn on some music
and thank you guys so
much for watching today.
