Secure and clean up your Tax Files on you PC

so after you have completed your taxes
perhaps you've used herbal Texas
examples actually about turbotax but you
need to make sure that you encrypt that
file before you go put it on a medium
that you can keep for a long time now
historically I might store my turbo tax
file in Evernote or put it on Google
Drive or whatever the situation is
you need to place out file somewhere so
that you can refer to it later but you
need to make sure it's secure so let's
go ahead and walk through a couple
things you can do with some free tools
that are on the market today
first of all we see here illustrated on
my screen to write down these this URL
for example this encrypted archive it bc
archive best grip actually has a great
encryption product if you want a full
containerized encryption product I would
strongly suggest looking at their
software but here we're just going to
use their free tools you can download
their free tool and go ahead and get
that then we have LastPass here which
again is another great product for
storing your usernames and passwords and
there's some more information on both of
these products on this YouTube channel
and then here in the third window here
we have what the the turbo tax reform
excuse me turbo tax forms here that we
used that are stored by TurboTax notice
here documents turbotax off you've
installed Turbo Tax this year this is
where those files have been found on to
your username documents in TurboTax you
can also do a search for TurboTax and
I'll tell you where that filter is so
it's going to get started on the
mechanics of encrypting this file so to
encrypt this file notice here I've gone
into trouble taxes have gone ahead in
printed my individual tax record because
I use it from if you're going to apply
for a loan or
you know you need it next year for
europe adjusted gross income AGI number
all of those things are important so
first thing we want to do we've captured
it in now i wana I want to rename this
file and I want to rename this file to a
pass code so I have a series of
passcodes I use inside of LastPass I
have a file in there for right past cuts
cuz it's encrypted in safe there and so
when I encrypt another file I have all
of the passcode annotated with in
LastPass so then when I encrypt files I
can use multiple passcodes not have to
remember the passcode as I can look
impasse in LastPass and actually get
what those passwords are so this one
happens to be p1 a pass code label p1
now it's a 30 alphanumeric password that
makes no sense to anybody but could be
very helpful and encrypting files so
let's just go ahead we've rename the
file to p1 and let's go ahead and start
with AK script excuse me with BC archive
here we also do this with AK script by
the way if you want to look up act
script I have that information as well
within this YouTube channel were
focusing here on BBC archives and slick
BCRP now what's what's cool about BC
archive is we can put in our password so
I'm just gonna type in my password there
we can also go to the advanced screen
and we can select what algorithm we want
to use I happen to like blowfish 256 but
we can use all different types of
encryption with different hash types
things of that nature you see here it
also shows my username and password and
then you know all the encryption keys
themselves so let's just go ahead and
hit OK and then here I'm going to move
the mouse within this window so you are
moving around and hit OK alright and now
as you can see this file has been
encrypted now the key here is do not
lose
your encryption code so again use
LastPass in store that last message very
secure and just stored under passcode
file and name that one pass code e1 I
would strongly suggest you have multiple
all of these password files I have you
know 25 that I use randomly on different
files so somebody figured out one basket
the not getting into all of your public
information then to reopen this file I'm
just going to double click on it and
it's going to ask me for my passcode
i'ma put my past go back in and then it
will go ahead and dump this to a
temporary place and then allow me to
extract that right and then you see this
file itself I don't wanna do that so
many keep it
encrypt it and then I'm gonna store that
on Google Drive for Evernote or whenever
a public forum I want to go to the next
thing I wanna do you want to delete
these files here why because anybody who
had access to my machine would know
where these files are notice here that
interval taxi use the extension tax 2015
but again if you just go to your search
engine and look for TurboTax appointed
that folder and then here's probably
where yours is as well just replace it
with your username so here I wanna shred
these now I happen to be using McAfee on
my system so I can shred these
completely if I do not have a shredding
technology I can go ahead and just
simply run BC archived on these files as
well if I wanted to notice here here it
is again I can do multiple files at once
and archive them but I don't have any
need for these France bacchus just in
case might as well just archival so
let's go ahead and if I wanna shred them
to show you that rookie just hit shred
and this will permanently delete those
files here and I can hit shred with
McAfee or I can just do a right click
again and I'm gonna encrypt these files
again but I need to rename them to J one
so let's go ahead and do this
encrypt them and then here I'm gonna put
in instead where I did before
here I'm just gonna put in the extension
here james won excuse me the header so
that I know what encryption key I used
and again I'm gonna hit OK
move my mouse around in this box again
and now you see here that this file has
been saved for me now gonna go back and
shred these files and then do a right
click and save shred shred and notice
here that it completely shreds of files
so you will not be able to restore those
files once you shred them and that's
about all there is to know about taking
care of your tax forms
once you've completed your taxes secure
that information there's a lot of
sensitive information about you and your
loved ones in your tax form file and
just remember that there are other
people they can have access to your
machine so go ahead and encrypt that
information and you should be good to go
