Hello and welcome to the student
survival guide.
This video will get you started using Google
Drive to upload and share files.
Students can store files on Google Drive
and share their files between other
users.
It's a great way for students to share
resources with classmates and collaborate on
assignments.
Go to drive.google.com and log in
with a valid gmail account.
The home page shows you all your uploaded
files. This page is also your file
manager where
you can create folders to arrange files
or select the check boxes next to each
file to share,
move, or delete them. You can also mark your
favorite or most important files with
the star. There
is a link in the menu to the left that
only shows your starred files,
which makes them easier to find and
access in a large collection.
To upload a file click the Upload button here
and browse your file manager to select a
file you want to upload.
You can upload pictures, videos, music, PDF
documents, Office documents, zip files,
pretty much anything you have saved to
your computer. Take a look at the
settings available
in your upload manager. Check out the setting that says convert uploaded files to
Google Docs format.
When this is selected, Google can take
files from Microsoft Office and convert
them so they can be edited from
inside your drive account. There are
occasionally some formatting issues that
occur when you convert these Office
documents, but
the ability to edit and save while on
the go is hugely convenient for students
working with the same file between home
and campus.
These files can also be exported, but
once again check for formatting issues
that may occur
when switching between Google Drive and
Microsoft Office.
To share a document select Share from
the main menu
or click Share when you're viewing a
file in Drive. There are many ways to share a
file:
you can copy the link at the top of the
window and post it to any of your social
media accounts,
change the privacy settings to make sure
that only the right people receive your
document.
All documents start out as private, which means only you can view and edit
them.
You can allow other people to view or edit by clicking the link
if you make it public. If you'd rather
only share your document
with a select group of people, Drive does
that too, allowing you to assign users to
share your document by their email account.

creating,
sharing and collaborating on documents
using Google Drive. Thanks for watching!
