How to restore and paint old drums back to new

Restoring a 16X16 floor tom back to new again! Step by step
Closed Caption:

alright today I'm going to show you guys
how to make a restore drums I'm I've
done some but a lot of restoring on
drums
i'm gonna show you guys how to make a
some toms go from looking like that
horrible feeling
rust stripped-down something like this
is what i just did exact set as those
look just like that and these ones
restored these are just as bad but
they're black they're wrapped in black
restored all those brand-new flat black
so the first step in here is actually
bought these drums off craigslist for
cheap 30 bucks for five drums and his
amazing deal once I read storm we doing
any on the shelves and the type of drum
and come out ahead on money so you can
make some good money doing this
restoring reselling but right now what
I'm going to do is I'm going to take off
from all the hardware so let me get to
that right now
so now i have the head off everyone
should all know how to do that so I
didn't really show it
drunky and take the Hardware off this is
an older drum these are older vintage
style drums so you have that next step
we're going to do and take all the
hardware off all these right here and
should be too hard on the leg stand i
usually put them in bags like this
number is for that Tom that was a shown
earlier that's all stripped down and so
let me get started on now pull them all
off and then I will come back and I'll
show you what it looks what it looks
like with nothing on it and then i'll
show you how to pull this off which is
already coming off you be careful you
might kill off the old the wood
prevented shell so all right get to it
all right here we are we have it all
stripped down just to the rap and I'm
going to show you how to unwrap it
without ruining anything i'm not really
that hard actually the hardest part will
be right here where the glue glue on the
side you on this side and blue right
down the rap so i set the camera down
somewhere i usually like this
let's go in
break it down pull up film under it not
only that film is really sticky stuff is
so little now we're going to this point
the razor blade
wait a little bit you can see
yeah
so many drums this one's not one of them
little quips is just pop right out the
case for this one but put that in turn
out this also helps you work swivel
around that's what fellows that piece
for the 16 inch just being from share so
it was very easy pain
bring up the wood with it stuff oil
usually take as much as I can off with
this just let the energy the rest 60
grid paper but that's that i'm going to
see it down with a 60 grit wipe it off
the wet towel
not a damn . down dance so all the same
comes off and all the dust off of it and
I'm going to resend it with another
Spiner great sample and i will tell you
what that great is get to it but I'm
gonna do that now and what you see i'll
serve you taking again when I come to 60
grip
I
is that's what 60 grit smooth her down
so nice and smooth as you see kind of
got ahead of myself sort of wiping down
i forgot it's doing video but I'm going
to wipe her down
you know that my times not really wet so
stamp enough to get all that sawdust off
the sand now she's smooth the whistle
and now more primer and then we can send
it down with 150 grit so let me primer
what we'll be using for a primer let me
grab it really quick
Brown primer on the route pretty brown
something flat black so so that's why
use a prime what's good about the
priming spin around stealing one spot on
my prime right now
good you
like strokes still see some green
nice been no refrain come to us and
started code should be fairly grind with
one more coat for you
so I accidentally started painting
without the camera so that's why it's a
little black right there but reporting
down so I'm finish her up your another
coat let it dry
given the coat coating it with this flat
black
krylon and then i found that works the
best going back over it
krylon dual another paint and primer so
it's primer on top of the base just
makes it look a lot better always crap
if you had cracks or anything it feels
it again making it smooth and so I will
do this about three coats
let's try to three coats of this dry but
the hardware back on but before I put
the tire back on I'll show you a nice
way that we shine about that rusty
hardware if you have rested her where
she had me go here we are to switch the
flat back you see the grain in there
nice
now i'm gonna go hand in a still attack
yeah my dry another tab lads had sure
yes I'm gonna go ahead and paint with
primer in about five give another five
minutes and it with the duel
then already video table you see how the
finishing product look and then we'll
put the hardware on let us see that and
then only see it done completely hope
you like it right here is ok so i just
painted this just got done getting wet
so wats trying to show you how shy of
the hardware the hardware got some still
works wonders
you can see all can't get that off as
like rust dirt grime unscrew this cuz
clean it properly is all that crap that
won't come off
take this running across there nice and
hard
it won't scratch it
resurfacing all that chrome that's the
finished product in total right there
took me three hours start to finish so
that's 16 inches pretty big so you can
expect if you do a bass drum I didn't 22
inch from the stripes that took like
four hours from or four and a half and
12 and 13 probably take about 12 and a
half 32 hours just because it has less
hardware and more hardware the higher
you up so that's it at the final product
and i'll tell you making making crafts
looking low Tom four-time look like a
brand-new flat black one
hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to
restore drums
thank you
