Collages, Mosaics and Photomontages
Montage is the process (and result) of making a composite photograph by cutting and joining a number of other photographs. Usually, this is accomplished by using image-editing software. The technique is referred to by professionals as "compositing".
A similar technique called Collage is regarded as a work of visual arts made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. One can create Digital collages by using computer tools in collage creation, to encourage chance associations of disparate visual elements and the subsequent transformation of the visual results through the use of electronic media.
Mosaic is the art of decoration with small pieces of colored glass, stone or other material. It may be a technique of decorative art, an aspect of interior decoration or of cultural and spiritual significance as in a cathedral. A tile mosaic is a digital image made up of individual tiles, arranged in a non-overlapping fashion, e.g. to make a static image on a shower room or bathing pool floor, by breaking the image down into square pixels formed from ceramic tiles. These digital images are coarse in resolution and often simply express text, such as the depth of the pool in various places, but some such digital images are used to show a sunset or other beach theme. Obviously digital images expressed in ceramic tile are of very low resolution.
Collages, Montages and Mosaics are fun to create, and the results are usually truly amazing. The montages and collages can be used for many things, it is nice create montages of memorable events, to make wallpapers or wall tappets, or even to prepare an interesting montage greeting.
